Shanghai gallery

From Lonely Planet's guide to Shanghai: "The most dynamic city in the world’s fastest- changing nation, Shanghai is an exhilarating, ever-morphing metropolis that isn’t just living China’s dream, but is setting the pace for the rest of the world."

To celebrate the new year, colorful decorations are everywhere, including on the water at the Yuyuan Garden.

The Chinese believe evil spirits can only cross water in a straight line. This zigzag bridge at Yuyuan Garden was built 400 years ago.

All lit up: The view from the Shanghai
harbor is breathtaking.

Chinese toilets look like the ones in Turkey and the Middle East. As in Japan, restrooms also include Western-style toilets.
